Job Description:

Senior Energy Specialist

Renewable Energy Team

Location: Paris, France, with flexibility to commute from European hubs

Our client is a leading European investment platform with a strong track record across renewables and the broader energy transition. As merchant exposure, storage penetration, and regulatory complexity increase across Europe, they are strengthening their in house energy markets capability to enhance underwriting discipline, portfolio performance, and investor confidence.

You will join the investment team as a Senior Energy Specialist, working alongside deal professionals and senior leadership across their different funds and investment geographies.

This is a high impact role at the intersection of European power market expertise, portfolio enhancement, and capital allocation.

Your Mission

You will raise the level of market sophistication across the platform.

This means going beyond commentary. You will quantify merchant exposure, stress test revenue assumptions, challenge price curve logic, and ensure that market risks are properly reflected in underwriting and portfolio strategy.

It is a senior, hands on role for someone who combines deep technical knowledge with the confidence and presence to influence investment decisions.

What You Will Do

01

Internal Capability Building (Approx. 50%)

Lead the upskilling of deal teams across all major European power markets, with a focus on:

• aFRR, mFRR, FCR, reserve markets and ancillary services
• Intraday and day ahead dynamics
• Capacity markets and revenue stack optimisation
• Capture price evolution and merchant exposure
• Congestion management, balancing costs, and grid constraints
• Hybrid revenue stacks (PV + wind + storage)

Develop internal training modules for the Renewable Energy team to strengthen market fluency and analytical capability.

Provide senior guidance on market related aspects of investment opportunities and engage in deal workstreams as a direct contributor, including merchant revenue assessment, PPA implications, regulatory analysis, and risk quantification.

Develop practical internal frameworks, tools and market playbooks that standardise how the team assesses different European power markets.

02

LP Communications & External Positioning (Approx. 30%)

Produce quarterly market commentary for LPs, covering key developments across pan European power markets.

Contribute to investor presentations, fundraising materials, and AGM content, demonstrating our client's market expertise.

Engage with LPs on questions relating to power price curves, merchant exposure, storage economics, policy changes, and risk management.

Act as one of the firm’s external faces for market related topics at conferences, industry panels, and investor meetings.

03

Portfolio Company Support (Approx. 20%)

Provide targeted expert advice to portfolio companies on market exposures, revenue optimisation opportunities, and regulatory risks.

Support CEOs and COOs in defining scopes of work for external advisors, for example merchant modelling, ancillary services eligibility, and BESS revenue stack analysis.

Connect portfolio companies to relevant advisors, consultants, market forecasters, and potential operating partners.

Offer on demand support to boards when market related topics arise, no fixed board seat, participation as required.

What You Bring

Experience & Background

• 10+ years of experience in European power markets
• Strong understanding of merchant pricing, ancillary services, balancing markets, capacity mechanisms, capture rates, grid constraints, storage models and PPA structures
• Demonstrated ability to connect market dynamics to returns and risk
• Familiarity with investment decision frameworks, including the ability to translate market scenarios into long term financial outcomes such as IRR, valuation multiples, and risk adjusted return profiles
• Commercial judgement and confidence engaging with senior investment and operational stakeholders
• Fluency in English required, additional European languages are a plus

Relevant backgrounds may include leading energy advisory firms, utilities, IPPs, trading environments, specialist investors, or comparable platforms where deep market exposure and commercial application intersect.

Why This Role Is Compelling

• Full member of the investment team, embedded at the core of value creation and capital allocation decisions
• Opportunity to materially shape how a leading European platform evaluates merchant and storage exposed assets
• Direct exposure to senior leadership, LP dialogue and portfolio company boards
• Preference for Paris based candidates, with practical flexibility for commuting arrangements
• Competitive fixed compensation and discretionary bonus
